Ive received a couple of requests for a Sandman art, and thats enough for me to work on one since I had been longing to see how Id do if I try to draw Morpheus and/or any of his Endless siblings. Well, now I know, and Im proud and pretty satisfied.
Drawn for 7 straight hours using a very cheap ballpoint pen (about $0.20), over very loose sketch using an H pencil on 11x17 3-ply Bristol. No markers even for the solid blacks, for I was trying to achieve the etched look which, modesty aside, was personally liked and praised by Neil Gaiman himself (I wish I could find the means to show this to him, see if hed like it). I can still feel my swollen hand trembling though, but its good to have released some of the pain and the emotions Im dwelling in at the moment.
Been thinking of what to write on Deaths book while my hand was tirelessly gliding up and down the Dream Lords coat, and I thought of just writing down the first 15 names of Sandman creators that came in to my mind. And speaking of Dreams overcoat, I copied the idea of putting on some faces, perhaps of those sleeping people who are dreaming at the moment, from Kieth and Dringenbergs page where Dream met John Constantine. I loved the idea the first time I saw it, and I thought it would be nice to use it to practice drawing different faces in various angles.
Thanks for looking (and reading this already long note!)! Hope you all like it!
Wow, that's epic. The depth of the backgrond vs the blackouts of the characters are striking. Another great thing about this piece is that often people draw characters, that are just drawings, they don't have the personalities of the characters in them. Even some big time guys seem to have this issue. You, sir, are not one of those people!! I feel awkward about picking apart a piece of someone who is clearly my better, but I just the need. Just awesome.

Don't you poppa me girl, I'll poppa you! I quit on you when you ran off to Deetroit with Willie the Pimp!
No problem. I gotta ask, have you got anything published? I am sadly behind the times with newer comic artists. I only wish that we had more money, cause I sure wish we had the dough to hire you to work with us on our books! I read your journal, and boy, do I know how you feel. But you are better than me and I have been hired, as in paid, too work on various projects outside of the comic world. If you're not making money from your skill and I am, well I don't even know what too say. If you have anything or do get anything published please let me know what it is so I can pick it up. You have a great style!

I just got hooked up by a MAJOR publisher and I'm waiting for a project. Man, You're good, too, and you don't have to go to the point of self-depreciating just to tell me I'm a good artist. Your words are already enough to keep me going, bro.
Basically, my doubts concerning my skills as an artist was just part of the collateral damage of my real concerns and issues. I'm trying not to let it happen again. I might have spoiled my chances of making it to the industry way before I even started after 6 days of letting my problems get into my passion in comic art.
Again thank you very much, bro. You're too kind. God bless!
